There is a very specific function on this forum: a button labelled 'Bump thread'. As you were intelligent enough to notice, a comment does bump the thread, but it also presents actual content. However, the 'Bump Thread' button does not include any new content; it merely moves the thread to the top of its category.

I often bump older threads myself, or ones that I've commented on and haven't seen a reply to in days. That's what the "bump" button is for. However, when people spam it, it's just a nuisance.

The 'bump thread' button is in fact spammed quite often. This creates the annoying impression that you have missed an exciting update on a thread you are following, particularly given that this forum sometimes has notification glitches. You click on the thread only to find out that it has merely been bumped. For maybe the seventh time in a row.

This is what I meant in my comment above. What other people are expressing with the same kind of comment, hoping that stating it explicitly will dissuade anyone from pressing the button unnecessarily.

I could have just said, 'You're a fucking idiot,' and left it at that, but I believe you must have realised it yourself after my very obvious explanation why your comment is fucking stupid.
