“Preponderance of the evidence” is a legal standard used mostly in civil court cases. It means the judge and jury believes something is more likely true than not true.
  • If the evidence tips the scale even slightly — 51% vs. 49% — then the side with the stronger evidence wins.
  • It does not mean “beyond all doubt.”
