Thoughts on the current GPU shortage and how much longer it will last? Seems like crypto mining is only part of the problem now...

There's also the computer chip shortage, which auto manufacturers get first dibs on. Also everybody was home because of covid for a while last year and demand for gpus skyrocketed because people were bored and wanted to game lol. One can only hope that things get back to normal soon.

Thats deff part of it as well, at this point I'm wondering if there are supply chain issues as well on the raw material side of things.

wormdummy1, ah yeah, stocks are a whole other bag of crap. Things are all over the place and the trend seems to cover everything all the way down to raw silicon manufacturers.

I guess the real question is, part parts have to stabilize to at least start seeing the end of the tunnel?

IMHO the shortage will last untill at least mid 2022 - early 2023 because the demand will stay the same (or even go up) but the supply wont change very much.
The manufacturer of the chips will build new factories but it will take till 2023 afaik.

I mean, placing the order is just showing interest in making a purchase of units that simply do not exist.

Since this shortage will last until new factories are properly up and running, and supply picks up to cover the demand, I think the more interesting question to ask is whether or not this will affect for instance the length of the new gaming console generation, or even technological advancement reliant through GPU usage.

because of these price hikes I decided to get a used gpu
got a used gtx 970 for 90$
the reason i need a good gpu badly was because i was running my system with a gt 1030 for almost 3 years and an upgrade from gt 1030 to gtx 970 was just insane
i originally wanted to buy a gtx 1650 super or a gtx 1660 super but then all the chaos began

I want to say it will be better in a few months but most likely things wont get noticeably better until at least another year has passed.

Just a tip if someone really needs to get a GPU even with the current price - there are *** groups (bots) and websites just like: https://partalert.net/ that gives a chance to get a GPU at lower price than on the market
