This was a comment to the previous post by lucky_samurai (here), but I decided to post it separately because I think it has good enough merits. So, to understand the context of this post, go read the previous one.
You see, here's the issue with this: go to the first page. The first posts all have movies that were clearly advertised as having simulated sex in them.
SOFIA KAPPEL in PLEASURE didn't have real sex, it was all body doubles and intelligent shooting, the main actress didn't do anything, and even if there are real porn actors there is still a liberal use of prosthetics and editing tricks. The wide shots deliberately conceal the sex action, because there's none. If you watch the scenes it's noticeable.
BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR? All simulated, it's been repeated and confirmed and re-confirmed over the years that all the sex was simulated, by production, actresses, etc. And it's a french production, a moviemaking context that isn't exactly shy with unsimulated or nearly unsimulated sex, which ignores the logistics of American moviemaking, so they'd have no reason to lie.
And many more... with just a quick search, I found that about half of the movies on the first page don't have real unsimulated sex, or there is absolutely no info on it. You can try yourself.
In light of this, here's the question:
I got a lot of flack for my post, because that movie (AMMONITE, with SAOIRSE RONAN and KATE WINSLET) wasn't explicitly advertised as having unsimulated sex, but there is enough ambiguity in interviews and a few funny statements that lend to the idea that some of it was real, it almost seems implied to be real even though not explicitly stated. No intimacy coordinator, no body doubles, no prosthetics... and they talk about getting drunk before shooting, about birthday gifts, expressing women's sexuality on screen, planning ahead the two of them alone, not having a lot of crew for that scene, etc. Am I sure of it? Hell no.
But go right to the first page, and all the posts afterwards, and you will see movies that were explicitly confirmed NOT to have real sex in them being staunchly defended by multiple posters and commenters.
Clearly, that rule and that definition you're writing doesn't quite make the cut. That thread is probably comprised of 70% simulated sex, with people believing it to be real despite all proof of the contrary, both analytical and factual. Is the issue with that thread really the "maybe real unsimulated sex", compared to the barrage of known simulated sex that populates it? I don't think so.
Most importantly, even when the sex is real, the vast majority of movies don't really show the action at all, so it doesn't even count as "visible sex". Even the scene in THE BROWN BUNNY isn't really shot in a visible way, Vincent Gallo's penis is barely visible throughout. But we know that blowjob scene is real. Does this mean it still doesn't count as extra-mile?
