In addition to everything that's been said, I also feel out of touch when it comes to music. Nowadays musicians tend to record and produce their own music with digital audio workstations (DAW) on their computers. This is something I've yet to learn.

Yep! It's much much much much cheaper than paying for studio time. I used to use a DAW on my computer for demos. Once you get the hang of it, it can make the workflow super quick. That's been my experience at least.
