If sociologists want to use this umbrella term I’m going to use it too and apply it as they do. Yes she is different than an escort and even different from a camgirl but her job is still to provide sexual gratification.

Your reaction doesn’t define her occupation. Someone might masturbate to an actress, athlete or underwear advert; that doesn’t make acting, sport or modelling “sex work.” Calling all sexually stimulating material the same thing is exactly the overbroad classification being challenged.

Then this is mostly a dispute over terminology. You can use “sex work” as an umbrella term, but that does not make flashing online meaningfully comparable to prostitution. The broad label is technically defensible; treating it as though it describes the same kind of work is not.

I said "with the intent of." If someone can get off to models walking a high fashion runway, that person is theoretically perverting the intent of that model. That's not sex work. If your modeling clothing on Patreon, doing slips and such, knowing that people are watching it to get off, that's "sex work." As someone above said, it is an "umbrella term." There are "escorts" and there are "street walkers." They are both prostitutes, n umbrella term. But I will use a specific term if I think specificity is required.

Intent makes it sexualised work, but it still doesn’t prove that “sex work” is the most meaningful category. Escorts and streetwalkers both sell direct sexual services; flashing online does not. Your analogy assumes away the very distinction being argued over. I don't know how many more times I need to point this out?

I think the person who started all this was trying to use it as a pejorative. They also said females instead of women. Anyway the reason why I said sex work is real work was to separate myself from those who would use it negatively. You’re correct that they’re vastly different especially in the way people react. When she started her patreon you could definitely argue she wasn’t a sex worker.

That’s fair, and I agree the original wording may have been intended pejoratively. My objection isn’t that sex work is shameful or “not real work”; it’s that the umbrella term can become so broad that it obscures important differences. Early Patreon-era content especially seems better described as sexualised modelling than sex work.

It can get extremely broad. You're totally on point with that. What I *think^ matters is the *intent* of the person doing what ever it is they are doing. If that person is trying to provide sexual gratification to the person on the other side, it's "sex work." If they are doing whatever they are doing without the intent to titillate, it is whatever it is.

But I don't know. Is a woman doing run of the mill daily activity but with no bra and hard nips engaging in sex work? If she knows that her audience is paying to see those hard nips, I'd say she's dipping her toe into sex work. I do think Marsden is well aware of the game she is playing. I do doubt she would consider herself a sex worker.
