Off Topic Is there a way to stop WMP being absolutely useless?

I remember when Windows Media Player would work with no problems. Now it just crashes. That's all it does. Nothing more. If there is no solution to this piece of shit is there an alternative? I understand it is deliberately made shit so we stream instead of playing our own music but I still want old WMP back.

media player classic is a good alternative. VLC as well. Those are the main two I know of!
