Another vote for Mullvad but recently got a cheap NordVPN key so I'm trying that out for now but it seems kind of lacking and slow.

ProtonVPN has been pretty good for me for a while. I don't torrent much these days so I just use the free servers for browsing and downloading non-torrent stuff which are pretty good for being free depending on the time of day (in my experience I get better speeds overnight). Even then it's usually been better than my default downloading speeds because I'm pretty sure my ISP bottlenecks because they suck. When I paid even the $5 tier was good enough.
